FOR DONNY DARKO

1.

He was young, she was the crone.

In another universe

Things would be the opposite:

She the vivacious, tormented youth, a sapling.

He the withered willow.

However, while being born at different times

The nature of existence presumes

They all existed simultaneously:

Old, young, and all the endless permutations

Of yin and yang.

As the old man says: "you might emerge

Somewhere else in space, Somewhen else in time."

Do not dive down that rabbit hole,

Else you risk ending it all

For another you

That you were supposed to never know.

2.

Yes, you are god. Don't deny it.

She challenged you: "Sounds like a superhero's name."

You were right to challenge her assumptions

But were good enough to not judge her because of them.

Godhead is not normal, of course.

But what happens when the you from another place

Is forced to take your place here?

Even in your own shoes, you won't find it's a good fit.

3.

Your dream is over.

The only thing left to do

Is wake up and cry.
